The year 2024 was the hottest on record at approximately 1.55°C above pre-industrial levels, breaching the symbolic 1.5°C threshold for the first time. Extreme weather is intensifying, driving the highest climate-related displacement in 16 years and worsening food insecurity and economic losses. The energy sector alone produces 75% of all greenhouse gas emissions. The Paris Agreement aims to limit warming to well below 2°C, with a stretch target of 1.5°C, and achieve climate neutrality by mid-century. As of May 2025, only 22 countries had submitted updated national climate plans for 2035. Developed countries committed to mobilize $100 billion per year by 2025 and $300 billion per year by 2035 for developing countries.
